The 71st annual Golden Globes Awards occurred on January 12th in Beverly Hills, California. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted for the second time in a row and again succeeded in both making fun of the actors and making them laugh at the same time. The big winners of the night were the films “Twelve Years a Slave” and “American Hustle” winning “Best Movie Drama” and “Best Movie Comedy” respectively. “Breaking Bad” went out with a bang, winning both “Best Actor in a TV Drama Series” (Bryan Cranston) and “Best TV Drama” after their final season concluded. The Cecil B. DeMille Award was presented to Woody Allen for his great achievement for over 40 years of movie business success. He was not present for the awards ceremony, however, and his good friend, fellow actress Diane Keaton, accepted the award on his behalf.
Many movies and television shows were represented in the results of the Golden Globes. Again “American Hustle” had success, winning both “Best Actress” (Amy Adams) and “Best Supporting Actress” (Jennifer Lawrence) in a motion picture drama. Alike, “Dallas Buyers Club” won both “Best Actor” (Matthew McConaughey) and “Best Supporting Actor” (Jared Leto) in a motion picture drama. The other main wins for movies were “Best Actor in a Movie Comedy” (Leonardo DiCaprio) for “The Wolf of Wall Street” and “Best Actress in a Movie Drama” (Cate Blanchett) for “Blue Jasmine”. The winners for television were varied with two wins from “Breaking Bad”, one win for “Parks and Recreation” and one win for “House of Cards”.
It was a great night filled with beautiful dresses, funny speeches, and talented people. The Golden Globes is a great way to celebrate and honor the achievements and success of the yearly movies and television.
