George Zimmerman, made infamous for his alleged murder of Trayvon Martin in February 2012, was recently arrested on charges of assaulting his girlfriend. Zimmerman posted the $9,000 bond set by the judge and was released Tuesday.
Prosecutors requested a $50,000 bond on behalf of his ex-girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, who reported multiple incidents of battery and domestic violence, but were denied because Zimmerman had no prior convictions.
The altercation occurred during the couple’s breakup and involved Zimmerman putting a gun to Scheibe’s face. She called 911 and filed a report with the police, noting that Zimmerman has destroyed some of her property during the breakup and pushed her out of her house.
Since the acquitting of the murder charges in July, Zimmerman has built up his track record of law violations, including an altercation with his ex-wife.
Zimmerman is now charged with aggravated assault, battery, domestic violence, and criminal mischief. He must wear an electronic monitoring bracelet until his hearing in January. He is also prohibited from possessing firearms and retrieving his belongings from Scheibe’s house due to the “volatile” situation.
