Monday, October 21st 2013 was the annual Senior Night for the Madison Lady Dodgers’ soccer team. They were playing their local rival, Hanover Park, and the team was eager to secure a victory. The girls were excited to possibly add another win to their already impressive record of 9 wins and 4 losses. Last year on Senior Night the Lady Dodgers lost to Hanover Park in a devastating 2-1 loss, the pressure was great on the team to win this time.
Everyone wanted to pull through with the win on Monday, but especially the seniors. They had watched for three years as the girls before them were celebrated on Senior Night, and now it was their time. Before the game both JV and Varsity teams came together on the Ted Monica main turf field to support and honor the Senior girls, whom the whole team looks up to.
Always a close match when they play, both teams came out strong and aimed to score early. At half time there had only been one goal, scored by Hanover Park player Janine Laudati. Hanover Park was looking to beat Madison, having already lost to the Dodgers earlier in the season. Coming out on top in the second half, Madison earned a penalty kick, scored by sophomore center-mid Bailey Hurst, tying the game. During the second half, the two teams played extremely hard but during the last 5 minutes senior left mid-fielder Molly Fishter scored the final goal to win the game for Madison with a score of 2-1. The win on Senior Night really represented the difference between the Lady Dodgers’ last season’s record of 2-10 and this year’s great accomplishment of 10-4. The team hopes to keep up with the good work and looks forward to playing in the upcoming state tournament.
