This Thursday, the coolest place to be is the MHS library. Starting at 7:30, the library courtyard will be filled with music, food, and literary enthusiasts. Libby Johnson, who will be singing at the coffeehouse, comments that “you should be there because I will maybe throw you some candy.” To find out if she’s serious, Libby suggests attending the coffeehouse, noting that she will “raise the roof” during her performance.
The coffeehouse, spanning from 7:30 to 9:00, will benefit the Glyphs literary magazine, an annual collection of short stories, poems and photographs curated by Glyphs members, who gather weekly at editor Teri Minogue’s house to discuss and vote on submissions. Some of these literary pieces will be read on Thursday; however, the coffeehouse will comprise almost entirely of music, sung by Glyphs members, such as Jess Schuszler, and nonmembers, including Will Wraith, who comments that he is “excited to see how many people come out.”
Usually, Glyphs coffeehouses attract around 50 people, enough to fill the public library’s Chase Room to capacity. The coffeehouse has never been held at the high school, and never this early in the year, allowing it to focus on musical performances more than prose or poetry. The coffeehouse will be open during the entirety of its two hours, allowing people to stop by at any point.
