School is open and so is the Chatham new Starbucks drive thru. As students are starting to get up earlier for classes, a quick and easy way to get coffee is conveniently located right next door. Excitement about this opening has been around since the spring, and the waiting was worth it. Built in the Hickory Tree Shop Center, which is on the border of Madison, Chatham, and Harding, the location has attracted many customers since their opening in late August.
The speculation of the new Starbucks has been so intense because of the lack of drive-thru’s near the area. Most people living in Madison or Chatham had never even heard of a drive-thru Starbucks, yet alone seen one. There happens to be only about 9 or 10 drive thru’s in the whole state; however, this is about to change, according to CNN writer Beth Kowitt. The coffee chain announced that almost 900 of its new stores in the next couple years will have drive-thru’s built in them in order to keep up with the fast moving life of Americans.
Drive-thru Starbucks, although few exist now, have had great reviews. Considering the fact that there are many more regular Starbucks walk in stores, the drive-thru’s revenue has been very great. According to Christopher Freeburn’s article, drive-thru sales accumulate to almost 50% of Starbucks’ yearly capital. This success proves that people will go out of their way to get a quick quality coffee.
