Monday, April 22, marked the Girls Lacrosse team’s senior night. Madison played Villa Walsh Academy at 4 o’clock on the turf, beating their rival in overtime. Senior Lexi Dellavia, and senior captains, Jill Lennon and Ali Jago, were honored on Monday with flowers and speeches. Three girls from the Madison recreational lacrosse program came to help out the team before Molly Fishter, Michelle Montagna, and Brynn Taylor gave their speeches commemorating the seniors on their leadership and friendship. “It was a nice way to honor the seniors, and winning our last home game was a great way and end our senior day,” says Dellavia, who has been a varsity player for three years.
Senior captain, Jill Lennon, said she felt “nervous” going into the game. “We’ve lost to Villa the past two years by one (goal) so it was a big win,” she says. Villa came out on top in the first half, ending with a lead of 7-4. During the second half, Madison replaced its goaltender, junior Melissa Blount, with sophomore Kiely Duffy. Duffy only let in three goals during the second half, allowing Madison to tie up the game by the end, with a score of 11-11. Goals were scored by seniors Jill Lennon and Ali Jago, as well as by juniors Brynn Taylor, Sophie Smith, Ari Goret, and Michelle Montagna. Smith also played strongly on defense. Going into overtime, Ari Goret made an assist to Ali Jago, who scored the winning goal that brought Madison its first victory over Villa Walsh in three years, proving that it’s just another great day to be a Dodger!
