After months of anticipation, the Great Gatsby will finally be released in theaters on May 10th. The trailers of the film on YouTube have been watched on repeat by millions of fans. Directed by Baz Luhrmann, the 3-D film is an adaptation on the classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, which was released in 1925. The Great Gatsby tells a story of partying, money, lust, and love in the roaring 1920’s in New York City.
The cast is full of talent and experience; Toby Maguire plays Nick Carraway, Carey Mulligan plays Daisy Buchannan, Joel Edgerton plays Tom Buchannan, and Leonardo DiCaprio stars as the one and only Jay Gatsby.
The film’s soundtrack, produced by Jay-Z, is captivating and energetic. Stars like Beyoncé, Jack White, Florence + The Machine, Lana Del Rey, Andre 3000, The Xx, Gotye, Emily Sandé, Fergie, and many many more. Jay- Z describes the soundtrack as “combining past and present music”. In a Rolling Stone article Baz Luhrmann explains, “in our age, the energy of jazz [in the 20’s] is caught in the energy of hip-hop.” The soundtrack connects the old and the new, the 2000’s with the 1920’s.
Student’s at MHS are ecstatic for the film to come out and have been in anticipation for months over the release. Katy Costikyan has been anxiously waiting for the release of Gatsby, which is also her favorite book, and is excited “to see how they [the directors] will take a classic and modernize it to make it more relatable to the younger generation”. Mia Raho has never read the book, but is still going to see the movie because “the time period is so different from now so it will be cool to see how life was in the 20’s.”
The Great Gatsby paperback has been selling like crazy off bookshelves. In a few days, millions of fans will be rushing to theaters to see The Great Gatsby, and hopefully will leave very satisfied.

This movie was so good. I like the Lana Del Ray song “Young and Beautiful” and I enjoyed going to watch this movie with my friends. I have not read the book yet but I am excited to read it.
